Henry, a native of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, came to Wisconsin in October 1853, first locating in Portage, Columbia County, and later moving to Baraboo, Sauk County, in May 1855. He was engaged in the manufacture of cabinet-wire until 1867, after which he operated a well improved 440 acre farm. He held the office of School Director for a time. Henry and Abbie were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Abbie had charge of the primary department of the M. E. Sabbath school for a term of years.5

George was one of the early residents of Sumner, Washington. He established several businesses, and he was responsible for several firsts in Sunmer, including being elected the first mayor in 1891. His home, called Ryan House, became the first library of Sumner, and eventually its first and only museum.20
