1. Pietro ‘Peter’ Palmisano,1 born 6 March 1898 in Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy, the son of Salvatore Palmisano and Georgina Dyer;1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 died 9 August 1981 in New London, New London County, Connecticut.3, 4 Peter married, in Sicily, Italy, Antonina Lazzara6, 10 (born 28 August 1902 in Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy, the daughter of Guiseppe Lazzara and (unidentified);2, 6, 7, 8, 9 Antonina died 11 September 1977 in New London, New London County, Connecticut8, 9).

Peter emigrated on 12 August 1899 from Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy.1, 11 Peter again emigrated on 1 June 1921 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.2

Evidence for Peter’s birth in Sicily comes from his passenger list entry when he arrived in Boston in 1921. The list indicates both his and Antonina’s birth place as Messina, Tusa, and that Pietro (Peter) was previously in the U.S. 1901-1907. The list also shows the typical handwritten entry indicating that they were both naturalized in 1941. This is considered a more reliable source for his place of birth than the indication in the 1930 census, Connecticut Death Index, and family recollections that he was born in Pennsylvania. Several of Peter’s siblings, however, were born in Pennsylvania between 1901 and 1907.2

Peter and Antonina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 1970 at a family dinner given by their children at the Groton Holiday Inn. Peter worked at the Harkness Estate, Waterford, Connecticut for 25 years until 1950 when he began working at the Underwater Sound Laboratory, New London, until he retired in 1968.10

Antonina emigrated on 1 June 1921 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.2

Second Generation
2. Salvatore Samuel Palmisano2 (Pietro ‘Peter’1), born 15 February 1922 in Stonington, New London County, Connecticut;1, 2 died 3 February 2011 in West Haven, Connecticut.2 Salvatore married, 19 June 1948 in Montville, New London County, Connecticut, Jessie Myrtle Sisson2, 8 (born 11 March 1925 in Connecticut, the daughter of Henry Everett Sisson and Nellie Dora Burdick;3, 4, 5 Jessie died 17 February 2001 in New London, New London County, Connecticut6, 7). Salvatore and Jessie are buried in St. Mary Cemetery, New London, New London County, Connecticut.2

Sam, as he was known, was a graduate of Chapman Technical School. He served in Guadalcanal during World War II. Sam worked at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, for over 40 years. He was a pipefitter and worked in the nuclear pipe inspection department. He worked on the first nuclear submarine, the Nautilus.2

4. Angelina Marie Palmisano2 (Pietro ‘Peter’1), born 16 September 1927 in New London, New London County, Connecticut;18 died 14 December 2005 in Fishers, Hamilton County, Indiana.18 Angelina married, 14 August 1954 in New London, New London County, Connecticut, James Delhart Jackson18, 19 (born 7 July 1929, parents not determined5).

Angelina was a graduate of Chapman Technical High School, New London, Connecticut. For 15 years she worked as a sales manager for Ayr-Way, a discount store chain in the mid-west that predated the first Kmart and Target stores. The chain was acquired by Target in 1981.18

Joe served in the U. S. Marine Corps in Korea immediately after his marriage to Mary. He worked as a carpenter at the University of Connecticut for over 33 years when he and his family lived in Coventry, Connecticut. They moved to Gulfport, Florida, in 1979. Joe was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, American Legion Post 125, and the Sons of Italy, all in Florida. He was also a member of the Coventry Volunteer Fire Association when he lived in Connecticut.24, 27

Mary graduated in 1950 from Fitch High School in Groton. She enjoyed country music, Elvis, and NASCAR racing.27

Gloria attended and graduated from the first class of New London High School in 1952. She worked at Sheffield Tube Company and later at the Holiday Inn in Groton. Gloria had many interests and participated in numerous activities, including bowling, fund raising, bingo, gambling at the local casinos, cooking, baking, crocheting, and traveling.33
