Joseph emigrated on 12 August 1899 from Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy.3 Joseph again emigrated on 16 February 1914 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.2


3. Cristina Dyer Palmisano2 (Salvatore1), born 3 March 1893 in South Africa;3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13 died 15 November 1986 in Los Angeles County, California.11, 12 Cristina married, ca. 1920, William S. Baron13 (born 1886 in Italy, parents not determined13).

Cristina emigrated on 12 August 1899 from Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy.3 Cristina again emigrated on 18 October 1912 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.14

Pietro ‘Peter’ Palmisano2 (Salvatore1), born 6 March 1898 in Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy;3, 5, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18 died 9 August 1981 in New London, New London County, Connecticut.15, 16 Peter married, in Sicily, Italy, Antonina Lazzara17, 21 (born 28 August 1902 in Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy, the daughter of Guiseppe Lazzara and (unidentified);10, 17, 18, 19, 20 Antonina died 11 September 1977 in New London, New London County, Connecticut19, 20).

Peter emigrated on 12 August 1899 from Castel di Tusa, Messina, Sicily, Italy.3, 22 Peter again emigrated on 1 June 1921 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.10

Evidence for Peter’s birth in Sicily comes from his passenger list entry when he arrived in Boston in 1921. The list indicates both his and Antonina’s birth place as Messina, Tusa, and that Pietro (Peter) was previously in the U.S. 1901-1907. The list also shows the typical handwritten entry indicating that they were both naturalized in 1941. This is considered a more reliable source for his place of birth than the indication in the 1930 census, Connecticut Death Index, and family recollections that he was born in Pennsylvania. Several of Peter’s siblings, however, were born in Pennsylvania between 1901 and 1907.10

Peter and Antonina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 1970 at a family dinner given by their children at the Groton Holiday Inn. Peter worked at the Harkness Estate, Waterford, Connecticut for 25 years until 1950 when he began working at the Underwater Sound Laboratory, New London, until he retired in 1968.21

Antonina emigrated on 1 June 1921 from Tusa, Sicily, Italy.10

Rocco was raised in Easton, Pennsylvania, while his family lived there, until 1907, when the family moved to his father’s native Italy. Rocco returned to the U.S. in 1921, traveling with his sister Giuseppina (Josephina).23

Guiseppina ‘Josephina’ Palmisano2 (Salvatore1), born 25 April 1903 in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey;23, 29 died 16 November 1988.29 Josephina married, ca. 1923, Carmelo ‘Charles’ Torretta33 (born 26 October 1888 in Prizzi, Sicily, Italy, parents not determined;30, 31, 32, 33 Charles died 7 November 1969 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin32, 34). Charles is buried in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, Waukesha County, Wisconsin.34

Josephina was raised in Easton, Pennsylvania, while her family lived there, until 1907, when the family moved to her father’s native Italy. Josephina returned to the U.S. in 1921, traveling with her brother Rocco.23

7. Cosimo Palmisano2 (Salvatore1), born 11 May 1905 in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey;35, 36, 37 died 19 November 1975.36, 38 Cosimo married Rose Mandella38 (born ____, parents not determined). Cosimo is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.38

Cosimo was born in Pennsylvania along with three of his siblings. His family returned to his father’s native Italy in 1907. Cosimo served in the Italian Army in the early 1920s. He returned to the U.S. in October 1927, sailing from Palermo on the S.S. Presidente Wilson to Port of New York. Cosimo was a construction worker. During the Depression, he worked for the Milwaukee Public Museum, carving models of medieval villages. He carved many ship models especially during the last 20 years of his life, including sailing ships, steam ships, and ships in bottles. His carvings were highly detailed and colorful.35, 39

Joe was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, American Legion Post 125, and the Sons of Italy, all in Florida. He was also a member of the Coventry Volunteer Fire Association when he lived in Connecticut.24, 27
