4Cosimo was born in Pennsylvania along with three of his siblings. His family returned to his father’s native Italy in 1907. Cosimo served in the Italian Army in the early 1920s. He returned to the U.S. in October 1927, sailing from Palermo on the S.S. Presidente Wilson to Port of New York. Cosimo was a construction worker. During the Depression, he worked for the Milwaukee Public Museum, carving models of medieval villages. He carved many ship models especially during the last 20 years of his life, including sailing ships, steam ships, and ships in bottles. His carvings were highly detailed and colorful.1, 5
