[Martha is believed to be the first wife of Charles M. Gazley; it is presumed that they divorced before 1850, and since Charles was apparently still living in 1865, the indication of “now widowed” on Martha’s census entry represents that she is divorced, since there is no explicit indicator for that. The indication of ‘niece’ for the relation to the head of the family may provide a clue to Martha’s identity and maiden name.]
