First and Second Generations
1. Elizabeth M. Hinkley,1 born ca. 1812 in New York (parents not determined);1, 2 died 23 January 1877.3 Elizabeth married, 1835, Dr. Erasmus Darwin Hayward2 (born 1814 in Solon, Cortland County, New York, parents not determined;1, 2, 4, 5 Erasmus died 23 February 1891 in New Berlin, Chenango County, New York5, 6). Elizabeth and Erasmus are buried in Columbus Corners Cemetery, Columbus, Chenango County, New York.3, 6

Dr. Hayward started the practice of medicine 13 January 1838 in Columbus, New York, and he relinquished his practice in the fall of 1883. He was Supervisor of Columbus in 1858, ’59, ’60, and ’64. He served as president of the Chenango County Medical Society for one year, and he was the second oldest member of the society when he died. He was a director of the First National Bank of New Berlin since its organization. He first married Elizabeth M. Hinkley, of Sherburne, in 1835, by which he had two sons, Hiram S. and Charles Hayward. On June 19, 1877, he married Helen E. Tilton, the daughter of the late Dr. James L. Fox.5

 4iii. Charles L. Hayward, born ca. 1846;9 died 28 July 1848.9 Charles is buried in Columbus Corners Cemetery, Columbus, Chenango County, New York.9
 5iv. Charles S. Hayward, born ca. July 1850 in New York;1, 2, 10 died 1907.10 Charles is buried in Columbus Corners Cemetery, Columbus, Chenango County, New York.10
