John married, ca. 1946, Ellen Brent Senay4 (born 7 February 1927 in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, the daughter of Charles Timothy Senay, Jr. and Ellen Brent Pearson Myatt;1, 2, 3 Ellen died 19 September 2000 in Naples, Collier County, Florida1, 3).

Ellen was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, a proud Mayflower descendant and the great-granddaughter of Governor Fowle of North Carolina. She attended Vasser College and earned a masters degree in fine arts from Tulane University. Ellen was a professor of theater arts at the University of Connecticut and the educational program director at the Hartford Stage Company. In her later years, she was a long time resident of Naples, Florida, where she volunteered at Naples Players. Ellen was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and she worked at a thrift shop in Naples. She was survived by four children from her first marriage, two step children from her second marriage, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.3
