Clara was a 1911 graduate of Columbia University, earning a bachelor of science degree.4

Clara made several trips overseas, as indicted by both her passport, applied for and issued in November 1921 when she lived in Tyrone, New Mexico, and several entries in New York passenger lists, returning on at least one occasion in 1925 from France with her mother Hulda, and from France with her sister Merle in 1931.1
