8Mamie grew up in Lamar, Missouri, and graduated high school at the top of her class in 1890. She was a teacher in the Logan or Franklin schools. After marriage, Mamie and Herbert Laycox moved to Joplin, Missouri. Mamie was known as a good Christian woman, intelligent teacher and faithful friend.8
