2Grace L. was born Oct. 5, 1876, in Morris, N. Y. She is 5 ft. 5 1/2 in., average weight 119 lbs., eyes dark brown, and hair prematurely grey. She attended Morris and Hamilton High Schools. At the age of 12 she joined the Morris Baptist Church. She describes herself as deeply affected by circumstances, gets blue and discouraged easily, and lacking of self confidence.
She married Rodney Shurger of Earlville, N. Y. April 18, 1916, at the home of her parents in the Gazlay Block in Hamilton, N. Y. Rodney Shurger was born Sept. 8, 1845, near Ithaca, N. Y., and his parents were Joseph and Ann Shurger. The wedding was a very simple home wedding, only immediate relatives present. The bride was attired in a blue traveling suit, carried a bouquet of carnations. Master Charles K. Gazlay and Margaret L. Gazlay were attendants.
They lived in Earlville, N. Y. Rodney died of influenza Jan. 30, 1919, and was buried in Earlville, N. Y. Since then Grace resided with her mother until her death in 1935, and then with her brother Arthur. Since Inez death in 1921 Grace kept house for her brother Arthur.1
