The reason he was buried in New York is uncertain, but is likely because his wife Hulda (nee Tefft) moved to New York with their son William V. Brand [Jr.?] shortly after the elder William’s death.

The research indicates that Stephen was a son of Ezekiel Tefft and his wife Amie (or Amy) Wilcox.
