Joseph’s obituary provides brief biographical details:9

Joseph Gazley, of Pultneyville, died suddenly Monday noon. He was a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of the town of Williamson. For many years he was the proprietor of the Pultneyville Hotel. He was noted for his conscientious sterling honesty, and for his resemblance in looks and actions to the famous Denman Thompson, in his play, “The Old Homestead.” He leaves a wife, one son, Byron Gazley, of this place; a daughter, Mrs. Bumpus, of Albion, and a daughter, Mrs. Fisk, of Bay City, Mich. In politics Mr. Gazley was a staunch Democrat and prominent in the party in this town.9
