Biography

Reginald is listed as an advertising agent and clerk in several directories for Louisville, Kentucky, from 1884 to 1890.

An article in The New York Times describes the circumstances of Reginald’s drowning [his age is misstated in the article]:6

Summer Visitor at Sconset Drowned.

Nantucket, Mass., Aug 26--At Sconset. Reginald Gazlay, twenty-four years of age. who had been visiting Major J. M. Wright of Louisville, Ky., and who was an expert swimmer, went into the water yesterday, though the sea was very rough and bathing was pronounced unsafe. He swam a long distance, but before he could reach the shore he became exhausted.

Ewing Speed, another of the Summer visitors here, started out after him. He succeeded in getting him almost ashore, but before he could get through the heavy surf he became exhausted. Assistance came from shore and Speed was saved, but all efforts failed to restore life to young Gazlay.
