Russell served honorably in the U. S. Army. He was a 911 emergency dispatcher for the Town of Montville, and a life member of the Monville Fire Company. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. Water sports were his passion and he spent a lot of time on the Thames River.6
