Second Generation
2. Kirke Gazlay Bumpus2 (Josephine1), born 14 June 1874 in Albion, Orleans County, New York;1, 2, 3, 4, 5 died 2 March 1933 in Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan.6 Kirke married, 4 November 1898 in Albion, Orleans County, New York, Jesse Allen5 (born October 1871 in Barre, Orleans County, New York, the daughter of Alvin R. Allen and Anna Denham2, 3, 4, 5, 7). Kirke is buried in Mt. Albion Cemetery, Albion, Orleans County, New York.6

Kirke graduated from high school in Albion, New York, in 1893. He entered the investment bond business around 1901, and was a recognized leader in this field in Detroit and surrounding areas. In 1906 he created the firm of Bumpus & Company for the trading of municipal bonds. Kirke served in the Michigan National Guard during World War I, and during the same period he was in charge of Liberty Loans and other financial activities in southern Michigan as a special representative of the Federal Reserve Bank.5
