First and Second Generations
1. Addison Gazlay Warner,1 born ca. 1836 in New York, the son of Benjamin ‘Uncle Ben’ Warner and Sarah Sallie Gazlay;1, 2 died 1 June 1864 in Ashland, Hanover County, Virginia.3 Addison married Angeline Elizabeth Gleason10 (born 9 March 1834 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut, the daughter of Guy Gleason and Pamelia Combs;4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Angeline died 1 March 1908 in Nahant, Essex County, Massachusetts4). Addison is buried in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut.3 Angeline is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant, Essex County, Massachusetts.4

Addison was a school teacher in Putnam, Connecticut. He twice served in the Union army during the Civil War, and was killed in the Battle of Ashland, Virginia. See his biographical sketch for details: Addison Gazlay Warner

The certificate gives the names of her parents and their places of birth, and the name of her husband Henry M. Gazlay.

Their ages and birth dates are believed to be incorrect in this census record based on other records (including the death certificate for Angeline). Angeline and Minnie are also shown in the same 1900 census in Nahant, Massachusetts (see), possibly indicating that Angeline maintained two homes. The Nahant census record is believed to be more reliable for their ages and birth dates.

Descendant of John Combs, of Massachusetts. Daughter of Addison Gazlay Warner and Angeline Elizabeth Gleason, his wife. Granddaughter of Guy Gleason and Parmelia Combs, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of John Combs and Eunice Shepard, his wife. John Combs, (1757-1848), was placed on the pension roll of Worcester county at the age of seventy-six for service of private in the Massachusetts militia. He was born in Warren, Mass., where he died.
